In August 2003, the Henry H. Kessler Foundation sold
Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and affiliated businesses to Select
Medical Corporation of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. This is an historic
milestone since the Institute and the Foundation are no longer affiliated
with each other. While Kessler Institute and related businesses will continue
to provide rehabilitation services for people with disabilities, the Foundation
will focus its efforts on support of rehabilitation research, education
and community programs that serve these people.
During the upcoming months, The Henry H. Kessler Foundation will expand
its philanthropic reach. The Foundation will continue to raise and distribute
funds to support the scientific research at Kessler Medical Rehabilitation
Research and Education Corp. (KMRREC). KMRREC's goal is to become a leading
international rehabilitation research and education organization and to
be positioned as a major force in the future of rehabilitation medicine.
Our education program will also grow, particularly the school based Think
First program that teaches accident prevention and safety first to children
from kindergarten through high school. Increased funds will also be allocated
for our community based grantmaking program, focused on not-for-profit
organizations providing services to people with disabilities.
Thanks to the continued support of dedicated donors, the Foundation will
carry forth the commitment and ideals that Dr. Henry Kessler held so dear.
Dr. Kessler's vision resulted in the establishment of Kessler Institute.
Our goal is to keep making dreams come true for all who
need our help.
